Pear Drops Emergency Catering is delivering over 2,500 hot meals each week to those who need it the most.
Daz and Lulu, owners of local Pear Tree Pub and Betty Blythe Tea Room in West London, were moved by the overwhelming need within the community and came up with an idea to use their expertise to benefit the vulnerable.
“Realising that there were people in the community who are marginalised and isolated and would possibly not have access to freshly-cooked meals, we thought about how we could use our experience to help anyone we could and talked to friends and business contacts that could somehow help us on the way”, says Lulu.
Pear Drops Emergency Catering was launched in March this year as a non-profit organisation and now distributes thousands of freshly prepared meals to the homeless across London and to the elderly in West London each week.
With demand increasing due to the financial impact of the pandemic, Pear Drops counts on the generosity of the public and other organisations to continue operating and reach those in need. Currently using Olympia London’s refrigeration space for storage, it is also campaigning for funds. Anyone can help by donating via the Go Fund Me page where they are seeking to raise £30k to help source, produce and deliver 10,000 meals.
“Local businesses, friends and the donations from the public are helping so many individuals. We’re so grateful to everyone involved. It’s been an incredible experience, a coming together of many parts contributing to help others.” says Lulu.
